Stop Making Excuses – What is Your Self Worth?

This is a post inspired by Gary Vaynerchuk that resonated with me and caused me to go on a bit of a tangent, somewhat off-topic. What can I say, it inspired me and I felt compelled to get what I was feeling out, and this is the result. Everyone has a bad day, just don't let it stop you. There's no reason, regardless how old you are (or how old you aren't), regardless of what you know (or think you don't know), whether you are a man or a woman, and regardless of your past, you can become successful.

Time for a Tangent Inspired by Gary Vaynerchuk

Insecurity, dark thoughts, and self-hate...

These are the enemies of confidence, happiness, and your infinite worth.

We all have these moments. These moments when the darkness encroaches... cutting off our breath.

When it all seems like it's too much, too hard, and the word "never" pervades our waking thoughts.

Those times when our child-like dreams collide with the hard, cynical realities that have been defined for us by those who mean well, and would supposedly never think to hurt us...

...including ourselves.

Whether you're 21 thinking, "what do I have to offer?"; 47 and thinking, "it's simply too late for me.";  Or you're 77 and thinking, "I have fewer days in front of me than behind me."

Everyone - regardless of environment, age or past - has something to offer, and it's only too late when you're actually underground, or your ashes are in the wind.

No matter how much or little time you have left (or think you have left), you can make a difference in your life and in the lives of others you care about... hell, even those you have yet to meet or will never know!

Gary Vaynerchuk is a guy that I've followed from time to time.  He's often an elemental force of nature whose passion is contagious.

Today he came out with a short podcast that really resonated with me and inspired this micro-tangent.

This post and Gary's podcast is for all of you that are feeling the drag of darkness, the pull of procrastination, and the wicked weight of woe.

Let Gary (who can hit the point far better than I) punctuate the words you've read with his voice (WARNING: contains some language):

Folks! It ain't easy, nothing worthwhile is!

Don't let the caterwauling mournful menageries that always seem to distract you and pull at your resolve degrade your determination!

When you decide, that you've had enough, whether you take your guidance from Neil, Noah, Gary, Tim, Tony, me or any other worthy source... commit!

You're going to learn, you're going to make mistakes, you're going to have bad days!

Recognize that a bad day doesn't define you... it's just a bad day.

Do not let anyone, including yourself, block you from your goals.

Tomorrow is going to be terrific!

How to Make Tomorrow Better

Today, far too many of us are worrying about how to make a buck, or how to get that last to-do item checked off our list.

Walk away from those worries for today.

Take a minute. Go to Twitter, Facebook, Google+ or whatever your social media of choice is.

Find a video, a tweet, or a post that resonates with you whose author you've rarely (or never) engaged with.

Engage with that author.

Comment and tell them how their material affected you.

Explain what you are feeling.

Be fearless!

Be real!

Put yourself out there and truly engage... not because you might be able to make a buck. Not because there might be something in it for you.

But because it resonated with you.  Because it made you feel - something.

Strike up a conversation if you can - with no agenda, no ulterior motives.

Oh, and if the opportunity presents itself to reduce the pain for someone, take it!

Too often I see the inhumanity of silence.

Nothing will help you feel better about yourself like aiding another human by reducing the collective margin of pain even for a single person.

  • Are you almost at retirement age?
  • Do you have no retirement?
  • Are you too afraid?
  • Do you think you're too young? Too old?
  • Do you think you have too much debt?
  • Or maybe not enough money?
  • Are you unemployed?
  • Do you have a job, but hate it?

Don't be a Victim - Excuses

Do something about it.

Stop "what if-ing", that is just an internal conversation leading to more self-hate!

If you gain nothing else from my site, hopefully, this post or Gary Vaynerchuk's podcast reaches you.

Your self-worth is YOUR self-worth, the only person that can truly put a value on it is you.

If you are defeated, it is only because you allowed it!

Go be fearless, and make your new life, whatever that may be!

Do something TODAY!
